Sociologists believe the implications of society classification effect acceptance of other groups (minority to majority), chances of success and the degree of status or power members of all classes enjoy. In Afghan history, the theory implies one fact, not are minorities accepted in any form. Not it is biased statement rather ground realities speaking volumes of disparities rooted in compromises we make and indifferences we absorb. With closed eyes, any bystander can sense the fragmentation in bygone demographics, established mindset and prevalent cynicism infused in life-style of the Afghans, which is deteriorated by the mercy of western media… Sure enough, their public needs motive for mass
invasion on a foreign land.
invasion on a foreign land.
Let’s not touch this part, but focus on impairment, we bestowed upon ourselves…
Afghanistan is back on international media, subject of civil societies’ rally from Kyrgystan to Austria, from Turkey to Australia and so did international columnists find a topic for their pieces, but disgracefully, with another victim of male-dominated-subjugation. Yet again, a young woman aged 27 was brutally lynched by a mob. These were young boys dressed in jeans & shirts while others in traditional Afghan costumes. This changed my perception of “illiteracy has caused misery” by far. The capital of Afghanistan proved, it does exist in Afghanistan in all forms. Following the mass-media coverage of Shaheed Farkhonda’s killing, volunteer women lead the burial ceremony snubbing pre-conceived norm. For them, no more silence is endurable. And why should it be???
Farkhonda is a true daughter of Afghanistan whose sacrifice brought the entire country together and is honored by every common Afghan from remotest towns of Dai-Kundi to the liberal classes of Kabul. From teenage school girls to enraged university boys demand nothing but justice! Farkhonda’s innocent and heart-wrenching portrait is added to the dark album of Afghanistan… so are of many Afghan daughters day in day out.
Shaheed Farkhonda’s bereaved family is not the sole victim of corrupt system and negligence of government officials. On fingertips, images of tearful women and children, status or profile pictures on social media, resonate another woeful story. It’s story of 31 families but represents history of one living generation of Afghanistan. It’s been two months since 31 Hazaras have been abducted on Kandahar-Kabul highway by masked gunmen in Zabul, located in the southern part of the country. Like expected, government officials did not bother, nor did Hazara political elite/ representatives in government. Those who did are few members of civil society
within Afghanistan or across the world.
within Afghanistan or across the world.
As Farkhonda’s martyrdom woke Afghan (not ethnic) spirits, why have not the miseries of 31 families?
Did we selfishly forget 6 of our countrymen (Hazaras) abducted in Herat – Farah highway?
Or the plight of 20 Hazara families in Dai-Kundi whose dears are in the mercy of Daish or ISIS elements active within this very democratic country?
Where are Pashtun civil society activists?
Where are Tajek media representatives or columnists?
Where are the Uzbek nationalists?
Mind you! Where are men and women of Hazara liberal and educated class who preach Shaheed Baba Abdul Ali Mazari’s code of politics and national solidarity but are behind their compromising bars or in their comfort shells?
Afghanistan is filled with distorted and confused people whose political or national assertion differs from what it demands in practice. We are pathetic and so are the social media users whose arguments are restricted in Facebook/ Twitter status but ascertain cautious stance not to add fuel to the flame. ~ Disgraceful!
300 People died or went missing, the Prime Minister resigns and family member of victim slaps the government official, it only happens in countries like South Korea; however, disgraceful is the President of Afghanistan, who received with barefaced expressions the “Distinguished Leadership Award” from Atlantic Council of the double-dealer US government. His speech at State Department, USA was the most flattering, swaggering and unjustifiable one commending the US generals’ sleepless nights to fight terrorism (born & bred by the same US generals).
Mr. Ghani thanked the US government on behalf of 3 million girls who have access to education, children whose mother does not die at birth of another child. He left every Afghan skeptical about demographic statistics because we know realities from capital to remote and mountainous villages from east to west of the country. I don’t thank the American generals or the aid agencies nor do those families who still suffer.
He blatantly praised Human Rights icon Dr. Sima Samar, whose display of silence over human-rights violation sends a message that not every life counts and these killings are not more than water drops of a sea.
Being a woman, she can’t see that a young girl is put on fire under her nose and not a single statement is declared – how ignorant! The nation is petrified in all senses and uncertain of country’s direction/ leadership…
The entire National Unity Government with its partnering organizations have failed to ensure basic right, “living freely with no threat” let alone enjoying socio-economic privileges because not do we accept each other at ease or in violence… the entire nation is distorted…
Decision rests on you…
