Batu Caves
Located some 13 KM north of Kuala Lumpur, the limestone hill attracts hundreds of visitors everyday for religious beliefs; healing, offerings, or some visit as cultural visitors.
The hill is welcomed by the World’s largest standing Murugan statue (42.7 m) and one needs to climb some 270 concrete steps to get to the main hill where some other statues are placed for tourist attractions. There are some other statues and Hindu shrines on the left side of the hill. There are mainly four categories of visitors to this site including:
1. Those with religious (Hindu) beliefs for healing purposes, who sometimes can hardly climb but their belief makes them do so
2. Those who come for Hinduism offerings/ prayers etc.
3. Cultural/ religious tourists from other countries/ states of Malaysia who are usually found taking photos while people praying, helping their beloved ones climb the steps
4. International students who are encouraged to visit and learn about cultural diversity of Malaysia by their colleges
