Every cloud has silver lining
Bamyan earns its dignity after long-lasting ignorance & negligence – JJ Photo
Today Bamyan celebrates its promotion from third to the second grade in provincial ranking, which means Bamyan draws more development projects, national & international investment and cultural significance. The credit goes to persistent efforts of the provincial government, civil society agencies, the cultural ambassadors and all individuals. Bamyan deserves the honor which it was made for after centuries of cultural, economic and prosperous civilizations it once embraced. People’s jubilation blooms and their joys evoke in the celebration which they aspired for ages. However, this is just the beginning of yet another journey which needs to be streamlined by thoughtful and pro-active leadership so that right things shall happen rightly. Bamyan truly needs safe hands…

However there are some challenges and constraints which may hamper progress and development programs which can be overcome with the below given recommendations:

Challenges/ Constraints

  • Still, there is argument about provincial census and data about socio-economic situation of people; therefore, it needs consistent negotiaiton on implementing projects based on populaiton volume and community needs
  • Accessibility to some remote areas is still questionning which can deprive some villages from any development projects
  • The capacity of provincial government and government departments in planning, lobbying and drawing development projects can be a challenge
  • Transparent monitoring and evaluation is not a priority at both provincial and national level which can cause flow of corruption at both levels
  • Security is always a threat in some parts and en route Kabul – Bamyan which may restrain reaching those areas
Recommendations:

  • Bamyan Provincial Government and the Provincial Council needs to strengthen their relaitonship to work as team in drawing development funds, implementing projects, monitoring and evaluating all development activities
  • A reform at the provincial government departments needs to ensure efficiency of human resource in implementing development projects
  • A transparent monitoring and evaluation system needs to be established at the provincial level to M&E development projects by the international and local NGOs
  • To strengthen capacity of security forces to create safe working environment for provincial, national and international activities

Here are some of the glimpses of Bamyan’s picturesque beauty through my spectacles with information about the two-days event:

The two-days event consists of cultural performances, local sports, folk music and exhibitions:
The venue for Thursday’s event is Bamyan Provincial Park. Today, the beats and lyrics of peace, fraternity and joy will echo throughout the town.

Band-e-Amir National Park will host local sports on Friday, May 23, 2014. The park will witness another success of the province after having been the venue for annual Silk Road Festival, Skiing and other cultural events. I highly request people to consider the conservation and protection measures to sustain beauty of the park.
I celebrate the event in my way.
