Volleyball was first played in the year 1895 in Massachusetts of the United States and becoming part of the Olympics in 1964 with 6 players in each team. This is one of most favorite games of the Central Highlands played by men of all ages.
In Bamyan it is played widely in all areas _ remote or urban_ as sports and entertainment. Competitions are organized at the wedding ceremonies, New Year’s and Eid events. Last month a Volleyball Championship was organized amongst 14 teams by Bamyan Olympics Department with financial support of USAID. All teams displayed sports spirit, commitment and discipline promoting peace and stability in the region.

All the matches were played at Bamyan Ground’s Volleyball court providing entertainment and enjoyment to the people. The final was between Wahdat Team and Resalath both of Sar-e-Asyab Village. The chief guest of the final match was Mr. Thofan (Head of Bamyan Olympics Department) and other government and non government officials; while a good number of audience watched the competitive match. Each team won two sets before the final set. The players gathered to maximize their skills and techniques to mark glory in their name.

The last set was very competitive as both the teams were making equal scores and people enjoyed watching each score. The shooters going for their best shots, defense making good defense, server for the right spot, center for good ball control _ a good teamwork harmony and energy by all showing they make people enjoy each game moment. And people applauded each shot, defense and the energy of the best players.
The true test was of the referee and side referees to watch close and make the right decisions as the game was in the right momentum and progress with close eyes of all players on ball while landing the ground.
After a tough set, the Wahdat Team marked the victory in its name beating Risalat by 3 sets. The fans of Wahdat were cheering and of Risalat giving encouraging applause to their team. The chief guest in his speech thanked all the organizing committees and the teams for their efforts to create healthy and positive environment in the province. Mr. Aliazada received the winning trophy and Mr. Zakiri the Runners Up trophy. Then the teams along with the chief guest took a group photo.
